I had many discussions with my mother-in-law over the way she treated her daughters. I told her that she could deal with my wife, the b!tch (to her mother, not me -my wife can play “hardball” when she has to), or the crazy one that lived overseas and that the youngest daughter, as much as she fought with her was “the nice one.”

I managed some level of respect from my M-i-L. I have a lot in common with her late husband. My father-in-law and I got along just fine. The day after my wife and I were married, we went to their house for dinner. As soon as I showed up, he said, “No refunds” and handed me a beer.

Impractical solution. He should just get out until MIL has come and gone. Of course, then he has to hope his wife didn’t decide to lock him out of the house for the night.
