But, Calvin, assuming you donât get caught using said night glasses for taking cookies from the cookie jar or do something else in the dark when the lights get turned on; thatâs going to sting like mad.
I have the cartoon book that got its title from this strip. It was the first âCalvin & Hobbesâ collection I ever bought. This one ties in nicely to Fridayâs episode.
First panel of the second row is an accident waiting to happen even without Hobbs: notice the distance between the floor and Calvinâs feet. He is hanging on with one hand on the faucet tap while holding a glass in another, all with water running.
I especially like the ninth panel where all thatâs visible of Hobbes are his eyes, nose, ears and cheek whiskers. Iâm also reminded of how the cat my family had for much of my teenage and early adulthood years had his eyes also appear to glow green when in the dark.
For those of you who havenât yet reconciled themselves to the fact that Hobbes is alive: notice that Hobbes is on Calvinâs back in the penultimate panel. Hard to do that if youâre sleepwalking.

Mom and Dad could also donate Hobbes to a toy drive⊠I mean the zoo.

Calvin could have just said he was thirsty and then tripped on the way back.

Night-vision goggles arenât going to let you see around corners, Calvin. Just get used to being pounced.

Could this be reason heâs always asking Mom to get the water?

The panels with the tigerâs eyes show just how brilliant Watterson was.

Yes! Infra-red vision goggles like the ones the predator had and with the little red light beam. But they help?

Went through a sleepwalking phase when I was young, maybe eight years old. When all is said and done, you donât know where you went.

Mom and dad have no idea how the stuffed tiger turns out near the water hole when he sees the prey. Brilliant artwork indeed.
