Maybe have them die in a totally incidental acorn avalanche.

Mother, please tell father that uniforms are considered appropriate for formal occasions. (Superhero outfits are considered uniforms)

Remind us how and why he commutes to and from his exclusive Swiss boarding school every day. The travel fees are getting burdensome.

Creative differences. Miles can’t imagine anyone having a tragic childhood if both of their parents are around, and Kevin can’t imagine having two parents.

Kevin has a point. Orphaned and troubled superheroes are so overdone that it’s become as normal as the sky being blue. He wants to break the mold and usher in a new trend of superhero origins.

I would totally read the heck out of a “Captain Squirrel” comic!

Could Captain Squirrel have a dog for a superpet?

Great strip. Including the plate of nuts (I think that’s what it is). And thanks for the information, I didn’t know about Squirrel Hearing before this very minute. Knowledge is power.

I liked Kevin’s idea. Orphan heroes are lazy copouts. A hero juggling between his family and his secret identity is far more interesting. Why do you think Miles Morales was such a hit as the new Spider-Man?

As a child, young Humphery Fitzgerald Worthington III, heard his father, the richest man in Rodent County, say “That boy is nutty as a squirrel”. Since then, Humphery studied everything there was to know about squirrels. At a school field trip to the county’s nuclear power plant, Humphery was bitten by a radioactive spider. Humphrey gained super powers! But, Humphrey’s father is right – that boy is nutty as a squirrel. Instead of becoming “Spiderman”, Humphrey became “Captain Squirrel”!

See? That’s what happens when the origin story is not tragic.

Not bad, Kevin. That’s the kind of tragedy that grates on you day after day. It’s enough to drive you nuts.

Surprisingly enough, Squirrel Girl is not an orphan

In less than half a decade from when they are, someone’s actually GOING to make this a setup for a Robin over at DC.

And then in another 4 years, and then 10 after that, they’ll turn Tim Drake into an orphan of the standard sort anyway.

In part because at least fanon suggests that his mother was the type of person to either raise or become a supervillain. Maybe even specifically an Arkham Rogue.
