I’ve never opted for that ability. A young grandson wanted to see a replay and could not grasp the concept of us being unable to grant a simple wish.

Wouldn’t he have gotten used to recording shows since VCRs became popular in the mid-80s?

Hit record, help her finish up in the kitchen, or make snacks to enjoy with the show.

Pausing live tv is my favorite feature.

Commercials are „buffer time“.

On the other side of that, we almost never watch live tv and I find myself constantly muttering “why am I watching commercials?” while reaching for the remote to fast-forward through them.

Wait, what did he say? Back it up. Wait, what did he say? Back it up……

Pausing a sports parade decreases its worth. Fast Foreward and get your life back unless you were intending to drink beer in front of the tv.

Have to disagree with Arlo in this one. Pausing live TV allows one to FF through the commercials.

We’ve had live TV on pause for 22 years this month.

We DVR most shows and enjoy fast forwarding through the commercials. Commercials during a live show get muted. I remember reading once the mute button was subjected to legal challenges by the advertisers. Never fully understood the argument against the mute button other than the advertisers wanted to make sure you were bombarded with product pitches.

At our home we just put a bookmark in our entertainment, let out the dog and sit back down to read more.

Can’t remember the last time I watched “live” TV

The head of the FCC called TV a “vast wasteland”. And that was 1961!

My wife is like Arlo. Will not pause, record, or FF. It has to be live. (“What’s that doing on, that’s over?”). And during commercials has to go to other channels, thereby eliminating any hope of reversing it.

I intend to drop Netflix this week. We rarely find much of value on it, and now they want us to scroll through 89 pages (no exaggeration!) of Terms of Service to get access. My wife wants to keep it so she can watch the final season of Stranger Things, but it doesn’t start filming until May and is not likely to be available until late next year. If Netflix does not get a clue they may not exist that long.

Live TV? What’s that? I never watch live TV, just DVR.

NFL on YouTube, free of charge has “condensed” gamesw after each quarter. With some endless 1/4s you can catch up to real time.

I don’t have the option. It would really cone in handy when I am watching a TV show I like and my dachshund decides he needs to go out during an action packed moment I will only be able to hear.

Get a DVR, dummy…

Remember when they tried to sell us (paid) cable TV with the promise we wouldn’t have commercials like we did with free, over the air, tv. That didn’t last long.

For me tv died with the sit coms. Everyone is so serious now.

Pausing live television makes me the master of my own fate as I thwart the physical laws of the universe.

Mostly I just use TV as a background noise. Right now I am reading comics and having late night/prebed snack with husband while the TV is on – he is watching a rerun of “The Waltons” – yet again (he would never watch the series until he hooked on it during the pandemic and now we watch it over and over and over and over… ).
