I subscribe to Buddhist conservationism. Leave nature to its natural process. If a tree falls in the woods, and it isn’t on my house or blocking the driveway, leave it. The biggest impact to natural ecosystems involves the least amount of effort.
We have [;anted numerous trees here on our sanctuary. Jasonsnakelover and others, the factory in this toon is a FACTORY FARM which is doing more environmental damage and habitat loss here in the Northeast than any other source these days. Our problem child is a dairy with over 6000 cows! That’s a lot of liquid manure slurry and they must have 1. XX acres per cow just to dump their foul smelling manure. To gain mire land they cut out hedgerows, tree stands and are HORRIBLE neighbors. The farmer claim of being “Custodians of the Earth” is now a farce.
Assume 40,000 chestnuts per tree per year. Assume one nut per 10,000 square feet. 400 million square feet per tree per year. More than 14.3 square miles planted per tree per year. Do it ten years. More than 143 square miles of chestnut trees planted or more importantly more than 400 thousand trees planted. Assume only ten percent survived and you are back down to 40 thousand trees. After five years more than 20 thousand of the seedlings are producing their own 40,000 nuts per year, so over 800 million nuts.
If the wizard set up a spell to plant each nut from each tree in a 100 foot spacing, everyone would be sick of the trees before the first ten years were over.
(They wouldn’t grow everywhere but everywhere they would grow would have one within a few hundred feet. In fact, with ten percent survival, even those which failed would have been seeded at least ten times.)
If Mother Nature wants to keep our trees, she should discontinue the practice of ice storms, sleet, hail, freezing rain and snow all in one day that leaves up to half an inch of ice coating everything. We have downed trees, huge broken off branches, a real mess here. A friend of mine had a tree drop a very large branch onto her roof over her bedroom recently. My child was renting with some friends when younger. A tree in the yard dropped a huge branch right through the roof and onto her bed. Luckily, she was at work. There are trees and parts of trees all over the place. I realize all things must die in their time, but ice is just nasty sometimes.

Conserving and restoring natural resources, the forests, the soil, and the water, will go a long way to saving the environment.

Yes we need to do more to help the planet heal itself; but now is not the time to plant trees where I live.

The world gets dirty, the situation hairy
Due to mankind, very dreary
Be attentive, hear Mother Earth say

That not a tree. It just a sapling. You cannot plant a tree. You plant sapling which will later on grows up and become a tree.

It doesn’t have to Earth Day to plant trees. It can be any time.

One day people will learn that we have to take care of what we have, but not at the expense of extinction.

There should be a train derailment in the first panel. That’s what we have here.

It’s Clam Chowder day and Chocolate Covered Nut day. Enjoy them separately, do not put your nuts in the chowder.

Yeah, but factories exist because of demand. You want to know who’s guilty? Look in the mirror! Are you living simply? How big is your garbage can?
