What was it raised while tRump was in the whitehouse ? 7+ trillian, halped finance the 118 million we were forced to pay his golf courses while he played there
Hey California, how’s that Global Warming working for you, bet you wished you had some. But over all this is a good thing, this will help build up the mountain snowpack and get them out of their water shortage. Don’t expect the Dems to lift any rules or regulations no matter what the surplus water levels get to. Dems just love restrictions on the little people and won’t remove them once they’re in place no matter if they’re no longer needed.
CA was once a beautiful and well managed state. Decades of leftist governance have resulted higher taxes, burdensome regulations and vastly reduced quality of life. How can someone run a business when it’s perfectly ok for thieves to come in and pillage it? Who wants to live in an area flooded by homelessness, drugs and crime, where you can’t even take your kid to a park, lest you dodge human feces and syringes?
People are leaving this formerly magnificent state in droves. Hopefully those who leave won’t export their same failed leftist policies elsewhere, including the unbridled spending and debt. I like the t-shirts: “Don’t California my Texas,” or “Don’t New York my Florida.”
Is it not true that despite the complaints from some here, California by itself still has the world’s 5th largest economy? Has California been a large recipient of federal dollars, or has California been a donor of their economy to the Red States?
I left California in 1973 to join the military, and never returned. In 1995 (!), I got a query from the California state government suggesting that I might be liable for back taxes, based on my previous residence as a minor.
That letter came just in the nick of time. We had just run out of toilet paper.
California contingency fund amounts: $20.9 billion in the Proposition 2 Budget Stabilization Account (Rainy Day Fund) for fiscal emergencies; $9.7 billion in the Public School System Stabilization Account; $900 million in the Safety Net Reserve; and $3.1 billion in the state’s operating reserve.
I’m sitting here in my cosy living room in Santa Rosa California looking out at the snow covered hills and thinking – I love living here. We are being treated to my favorite kind of snow, snow that looks beautiful and I don’t have to shovel. We often get snow this time of year. Not in valleys, but up on the high hills of the Bay Area. It’s just unusually low this time. It will be gone from the low elevations by noon and gone from the local peaks by mid March.
Most of the opinions expressed by the usual suspects here are either result of ignorance or just flat out lies. For instance California cities are not hell holes of crime. Yes, we have some bad spots. Oakland is notorious, but it is also one of the highest rankings of cities with “Super Zip Codes”, areas with high numbers of college educated people and high incomes. In general, though, crime in California is similar to crime in Texas or Florida whose big cities have higher crime rates than either Los Angeles or San Francisco (or San Jose or Sacramento for that matter).
Yes we have high taxes, but we must be OK with that because we voted for people who raised taxes by landslides four election cycles in a row. Gov. Newsome not only won 2 to 1 in his last election, he defeated a recall by the same margin. We’re obviously happy with his job, for all his faults and missteps (which were not so bad).
And for the life of me, I can not figure out the right’s obsession with gas prices as a metric for success. So gas prices are high here. Buy a more fuel efficient vehicle or take mass transit.
We are not perfect. California is expensive, it always has been (Woody Guthrie wrote in the 1930’s “California is a Garden of Eden. A paradise to live in or see. But believe or not, you won’t find it so hot, if you ain’t got the Do Ray Mi” ). We like it here and given the number of college graduates, innovators and entrepreneurs, we obviously are not stupid. So keep hating, we don’t care.
Actually California had a big surplus and gave it and more back to the people to help with the inflation rates and high gas prices. Nevada has a surplus now and as usual the Republican Governor wants to give tax breaks to the businesses. And what will happen is next year they will a deficit and will cut services which is already stretch thin.

Did Lisa complain about the “un-balanceable budget” when Republicans were in charge?

Amazing how one of the leading Democrat Presidential candidates is someone who has ruined one of our best states.

He’d have a surplus if he stopped expensing his French Laundry tab. :)

One thing for sure, people are showing their disapproval with their feet. Maybe one can make career by returning U-Haul to California.

Pretty sure California’s budget deficit is a lot lower than it was under Republican Governors.

It’s a bummer when you got to pay for past pleasures. Sad part is that most of us didn’t even get to enjoy the pleasure part but got to pay anyway.
