In marathons and other mass long distance races, VIPs usually do get to start at the front of the mass of people in the race.
In horse racing, that’s called “handicapping.”

I love it when some people pay for speedy boarding, only to find that they have paid to be first in the queue to get on the bus that takes you to the plain on the apron.
Probably comes with a limo halfway through the race
