Back in survival school, we were taught resistance techniques for withstanding interrogations. At the time, I was a second lieutenant, playing dummy was a very plausible tactic.

We have ways of making you say whatever we want you to say.

Reminds me of the silly old story of a prisoner, tormented by his captor by being forced to act like a clock. He has to sit in his cell all day, saying, “Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock . . . .” But to show his defiance, the prisoner just says, “Tick, tick, tick, tick . . .”

“You are being very foolish,” his captor tells him. “We have ways of making you tock.”
