$100.00??? I thought that had used claims as money back then. At least back in the older versions of B.C.And yes, I would and do see a chiropractor. Helps me with lower back and neck pain.
I went to a Chiropractor once. I can’t say he helped my back, but at least he didn’t hurt it. This also reminds me of something in my family. We went on a short car trip once to a small town in our state where two Great Aunts lived. They put on a giant spread that reminded me of a “Country Supper”. Anyway, they ran a Chiropractor Business, but they weren’t licensed. Interestingly, they were quite loved and respected there, and the Town Officials turned a “blind eye” to it… ☺
In the early 1990s I had an unsatisfactory experience with a chiropractor. BUT, more recently my lower back tilted about 20 º to port. My wife’s chiropractor took x-rays and there was no mystery. The left 40% of two discs were just gone. He decided there was enough left for him to work with. I had three visits a week at first, gradually tapering off to one a week. Finally, with prescribed exercises by their masseuse, I can maintain myself. If I do something stupid, I need him to do an adjustment.
I went to a chiropractor for about 25 years for my back and to help my migraines , it helped my back but did nothing for my migraines, of course I have had them since I was 17 and now I am going to be 51 this summer and still have them, I am on day 4 of a horrible one and have been depressed for 2 days because of it. I only stopped going because I had no insurance for a while and couldn’t afford the payments but when I got on disability I got on medicare so they would have paid for them but I just am not in good shape healht wise and most days I am in bed all day so I just don’t go anymore. I was in a car accident about 20 years ago, was rear ended, and it moved my spine a couple inches and I could hardly walk or stand up straignt but after about 10 visits with the chiropractor, the guy who hit me isurance paid for the visits, I was so much better. They are good doctors but as some have stated there are rare ocaasions where you get bad ones and they ruin the reputation of all the great ones. I have only heard of one very bad example in our area where a woman went into the chiropractor for a stiff neck and didn’t tell him that she had a spine injury from a childhood accident and when he adjusted her spine he pressed on that area and it caused a horrible side effect and she ended up paralyzed and in a wheel chair. He felt so guilty about it that 4 months after it happened he commited suicide and left behind a wife and 2 sons, both sons themselves became chiropractors in his memory and the one works out of the same building his dad did and has a very busy practice.
I look at them with the same eye as I look at homeschooling: Some are good, some are bad, but you mostly hear about the utterly BS ones because of their fan base.
My karate school used to be right next to a chiro. One day they offered their $250 intro package for “free” if you got a referral from a client. Head-to-toe xray, some BS thing down the spine to tell you where you were out of balance in neural usage, and a serious consultation – all for the price of one adjustment. ($20)
I was having some serious back pain, so I said “F__ it. 3 students are clients. I have nothing to lose, everything to gain, and it’s cheaper than a massage.”
I did the whole analysis, listened to his quackery, got cracked all over from the armpits down (I wouldn’t let him touch my neck) and then got the one piece of information that later solved 99% of my back pain: I’ve been standing weird for years because of pain in one knee. Letting my leg dangle had my hips and pelvis in a bad position, causing pain in my lower back. He told me that simply standing up straight, with the occasional moment standing with my other leg dangling, would take the pressure off and end the pain.
HE WAS RIGHT.
About 2 weeks of forcing myself to keep equal weight on my feet led to 40% of my pain evaporating. Two months and 80% was gone. It’s been over 10 years and I now only have problems when I do something stupid.
If I had gone to a regular doctor, they would have run lots of expensive tests and probably sent me to a specialist. This would have racked up a boatload of medical debt that I would have been unable to afford. I got all I needed for the price of lunch for 3 at McDonald’s.
Could I have gotten the same information for free off the internet? Very likely. Would I have gotten the one tidbit of information specific to my situation? Probably not.

That’s one kind of “doctor” that I have no intention to visit.

If you want to let one crack your back, go ahead. Don’t let him near your neck. Don’t ask how i know…

I learned that this method is not good for persons with scoliosis, aka curved spine. *Which can be done using an exercise ball
