A trucker that I knew used to refer to those barrels as “Schneider eggs.” Schneider Transportation’s trucks were that same shade of orange.

Yes, those are Orange Barrels. The modern plastic version. Years ago the Orange Barrels were repurposed 55 gallon steel drums.
