My Mom had osteoporosis. She caught a cold that made her cough deeply. A vertebra cracked (hairline) during a deep cough. She could not get out of bed easily. She was in tears, from the pain and the fear that it was lung cancer. She prayed that if she could just continue to live she would quit smoking. She went cold turkey then and there (& had no cancer.)
As she relayed the story to my husband and me the next day, he started laughing. He said heâd wondered what I was doing the other day. He thought Iâd lost my mind dancing on the sidewalks. Now he figured out I was trying to step on the cracks! Good thing I love him, lying like that to my Mom! ;-)

When I was a kid I stepped on the cracks on purpose whenever I was mad at my mother. She never had a back problem as far as I know.

It can be âfunâ when walking by yourself to figure out what length of stride it takes to either hit or miss the cracks.

I never considered the sidewalk separations as âcracksâ. i believe only a real crack will suffice.

Stepping on section lines in concrete is not stepping on cracks.
