The great scholar, however, seems to have overlooked the fact that at the end of the 18th century, bear had ceased to be used as a synonym of carry (around), though of course surviving in a slew of figurative senses, and further, that “bear arms” is and always was a term of soldiery specifically.
Ah, well; when a learned man dies, a great deal of learning dies with him. Not so much in Scalia’s case.
Imagine if these same half-wits pick and chose whatever portions they liked from the Bill of Rights (or from EACH of the 27 Amendments) the way they do from the 2nd Amendment!
