Yes, no less a legal giant than Antonin Scalia has shown that those words don’t mean anything, because they are not syntactically connected with what follows, which say (he claims) that military or militia service does not have anything to do with the “individual’s right to keep and bear arms”.

The great scholar, however, seems to have overlooked the fact that at the end of the 18th century, bear had ceased to be used as a synonym of carry (around), though of course surviving in a slew of figurative senses, and further, that “bear arms” is and always was a term of soldiery specifically.

Ah, well; when a learned man dies, a great deal of learning dies with him. Not so much in Scalia’s case.

Imagine if these same half-wits pick and chose whatever portions they liked from the Bill of Rights (or from EACH of the 27 Amendments) the way they do from the 2nd Amendment!

Own as many weapons as I want? Check!

Become part of a well-regulated militia? Bahhh!
