I never had that problem when I learned to ride a bike. My only problem was dealing with a temperamental 10 speed that had a tendency to slip gear and have the chain come off the sprockets while riding. Plenty of scraped knees back then.
Calvin sure has a fanciful imagination about bicycles ! While I had my problems when I got my first bike, they were never anywhere close to what Calvin thought ! ! ! !
I suppose once you’ve proven that your bike can beat you up it’s a lot more satisfying when you break it and force it to your will. A lot like the toilet.
Calvin’s bike must have been created by Stephen King. I remember the book, ‘Christine’. https://www.amazon.com/Christine-BCE-Stephen-King/dp/0670220264/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1685887813&sr=8-1
Are we to assume that Calvin is learning to ride a bicycle? It took me a month with training wheels and no helmet! Of course, back then cars didn’t have seat belts, either.
I had similar experiences with bikes when I was a kid. (Someone should tell kids that there’s a neat trick of physics — the faster you go, the more stable the bike, so you just need to go fast enough to be stable. Conservation of angular momentum, boys and girls.)

If screaming for help and running scared is character, yup, he’s built plenty of character.

I don’t think, Calvin, they sell long-range, offensive weapons to six-year-olds.

I’ll be glad when it’s winter again so Calvin can build snow “characters” that will bug his insufferable father no end!!

It seems that Calvin’s bike is related to Charlie Brown’s kite.

Calvin will never learn to ride a bicycle, he has neither the attention span or the drive to pay attention and practice until he gets it right.

I believe this is the first time I’ve heard Calvin thank his father (or anyone, for that matter) for anything.
