He paints what he sees, not what he would like to see.

She really doesn’t want him to paint THAT expression on her portrait. He’s in trouble if he does. But then, it seems like he’s going to be in trouble anyway.

Here’s a tip for the beginner portrait artist. Don’t paint what you see. Paint what the client wants to see. This way you get referrals and repeat business.
