Many historians believe he refused to meet any other presidents after McKinley’s murder. I can see him feeling like a jinx or a bullet attractor, death for those around him because he never saw combat during the Civil War. In the Lincoln movie his mother was the one who stopped him from being able to join.

September? It would seem that the Christmas to New Year holiday season is quite fertile

Nine months before September is approximately the winter holidays. I wonder if that’s what makes the difference.

Charles Guiteau, the one to assassinate Pres. Garfield, was a very weird guy. He was initially an enthusiastic supporter of Garfield, to the point where he delusionally convinced himself that he had been Garfield’s greatest ally in the election.

When Garfield neglected to reward him for this with a diplomatic appointment, he then convinced himself that the president would actually destroy the country if he didn’t complete his “divinely-inspired mission” of assassinating him.

Speaking of which, Guiteau had previously spent five years in the Oneida Community, a religious commune which still exists now in the form of a silverware company. This community, at the time, was infamous for communal living and open relationships, but Guiteau was still exceptionally unpopular.

Working back nine months from September, we learn a lot about how people like to celebrate the holidays!

September 9th was also the first number chosen in the US draft lottery of 1969, the first draft lottery in the US since World War Two.

If anyone needs an explanation of why there are more US births in December, I’m happy to have a talk. THE talk, I should say. In case you can’t wait: Mommy and Daddy love each other very much and more often when it’s cold.

Robert Todd Lincoln was the only one of Abe’s children who lived to full adulthood and he became a multi-millionaire railroad executive.

He also had to fend off millions of fellow Republicans who wanted to be be photographed with “Abe Lincoln’s son”. Hildene, his huge mansion in MANCHESTER,VERMONT;is open for tours.

First time I drove from downtown Houston to George Bush Airport, I went down a stretch with (in a row) two McMansions, a pig farm, a trailer park, another McMansion and a strip mall. That’s taking ‘no zoning laws’ to the extreme. Now, before anyone yells at me, I think Houston is a great city with great people, who know what real food is. GREAT city to get an awesome meal.

A New Year’s conception would arrive on October 1st, so everybody was celebrating the Christmas holidays.

So … you’re saying nine months after celebrating Christmas and New Years you receive a “present”?

The reason so many people are born in September, is because people get so drunk at New Year’s….do the math.

I learned about Mr Lincoln and the assassinations by reading Sarah Vowell’s book, Assassination Vacation.. Aside from the assassinations, it’s a funny book.

One has to wonder if the September birthrate has anything to do with a week of parties between Christmas and New Years

The item about Robert Todd Lincoln reminds me of something Poirot said or wrote near the end of Agatha Christie’s Curtain.

It would appear then that zoning laws don’t actually do a lot, other than slow things down and secure bureaucrats jobs.

Well, I’m not a Christmas holiday baby. My birthday may be Sept. 9th, but I was conceived in Feb., I just arrived 2 months early. There may be a lot of Sept. 9th birthdays, but I’ve only ever met one other person who shares my birthdate.
