Been there. Like Dani Rice said – uphill in every direction to get there and downhill leaving. Passed two overheated cars, a large truck with overheated brakes and one with brakes on fire. Road can definitely be a killer if you’re not prepared. Oh yeah, it is an interesting place.
Pluggers rightfully live their lives in fearful anticipation of the day God will finally strike them down, as nightmarish man-animal abominations against His law.
Problem now is that he concerned about driving if raining – add in, spending money on a trip and it rains while there – almost every place we normally travel is mostly outside – he decides we shouldn’t go. Since I don’t like to travel to begin with and these years (since we had bed bugs) we are traveling in a class B RV (Chevy van converted – less than 20 ft x6 ft inside) which has to be broken down every day to go out and then setup again when we settle in for the night – I tend to not to push him past his weather concerns.
I have moved the same reservation from July 4th weekend 2020 to same 2021, 2022, and currently 2023. In normal years we will down there 4-6 times a year for short stays.

I have always heard “God willing and the Sun don’t shine”. Cannot find an origin or explanation for that one on the Internet.

Why would anyone want to go there?

When you get up in years, you’re likely to have more of a sense that the best laid plans might not even begin.

God, or Allah, or Zeus. or . . . has more to do than make a decision about whether or not a Plugger goes to Gatlinburg.
