I wanna see how their relationship plays out, they look really cute.

I mean, I kinda get where they are coming from considering middle school couples never last very long..

tbh i give this arc 2 weeks before daphne disappears off the face of the earth

I know stuff like this is how 6th grade boys act (trust me, I would know), but there’s a difference between screwing with Nate (like last strip) and literally talking behind his back about how long his relationship is gonna last.This is a bit too far.

i saw some people complain about teddy and francis being mean. i dont think people understand that pierce is trying to capture the way 6th graders act. like of course they’re gonna mean about it, they’re 6th graders. yeah its mean but its also realistic and in some way (atl east to me) its charming.

BUT…..

i personally think its too overdone now. in the past, teddy and francis were mean to nate. but they also SUPPORTED him too. now you see almost no support. i was cool with teddy and francis being mean to nate in the older strips because they would also show their support for him to balance it out.

but that support doesn’t show up much anymore and it makes them look like bad people (which they are not)

tell me this pierce, if nate is the narcissist who always gets in trouble. and teddy and francis are the nice guys, than how am i supposed to root for teddy and francis when they are just jerks to nate all the time.

but at the same time, this is exactly how normal 6th graders act so i dont know what to think of it

Some friends of my ex-wife bet each other we wouldn’t stay married for 6 months (at our wedding/reception). We made it 5 years, so they had the right idea, just not the right timing. Happily remarried now for over 25 years.

Ok now Teddy and Francis comments it was just cruel

They were so wrong. Nate and Daphne have been going out for a solid 10 months. And Daphne’s more happy then Anjie, Kelly, or Trudy.

As of March 18 the following year, Daphne is getting “advice” that she should dump Nate. Hopefully they weather the storm and hang in there, if not they won’t make their 1 year anniversary.

DEEP THEORY

Of course we don’t know if Nate really ages in the series, but its implied he’s had multiple Halloweens, and multiple school years, which basically means times repeating itself. I also remember in a strip Teddy or Francis said that time doesn’t continue over and over in real life or something of that sort, which is sort of like some sort of fourth wall break. This really makes you think what’s going on in the big Nate universe and do they know that time just continuously repeats itself? In this strip, judging by francis’ immediate guess to how long Nate’s going to date Daphne this implies he still remembers the past 6 or 7 girlfriends nates had so well that he’s able to give a guess quickly. HMMMMMMMM
