What’s a typewriter?

I take it he didn’t get to finish his letter, and just had to mail it.

I can hand-centre a document on a manual typewriter. Just one of the many skills I was taught and graded on at school months before they became useless.

It’s like going to a store that sells printers and printing out a few pages just to see whether they are any good.

Yesterday, a commenter queried whether Snoopy ever runs into any adults on his peregrinations. Well, here’s your answer :)

At the Microsoft and Apple stores here in Boston, they actually let the customers use the computers for trial runs.

Aah, the nostalgia of a typewriter.

A typewriter store? Was there ever such a thing?

Now, this is one interesting comic. Snoopy, as we all know, is a writer of books and uses his own typewriter, is now in a store that sells typewriters and what looks, in the glass case in the background, like TAD’s, or telephone answering devices. This is a curious store as it has typewriters with one almost on the floor, just right for Snoopy to use. I notice these things as, back in the early 80’s, I once worked in the electronics section of a department store which sold typewriters, but none so close to the floor.

What’s also interesting is that Snoopy isn’t aware that there’s anything unusual about a dog who can type, let alone use a QWERTY style keyboard. In all his dealing with humans, he clearly sees us as the dummies in the room. What arrogance. But, that’s funny, too.

I imagine younger readers will interpret this strip as Snoopy texting CB.

Typing with those cute paws can be intriguing. The customer service is simply curious, Snoopy.

Typewriter stores had sample machines? I suppose that makes sense. Were they really arranged at different heights as depicted?
