I well recall the “duck and cover” drills in school. Later, I figured out that getting under the chair desks wouldn’t have done much to protect me the event of a nuclear attack, might have helped in a tornado, but not much else.
I never realized Brutus was aware of his status. I always assumed he was naive and unaware of who he really was. This puts a whole new complexion on the situation.
I worked the ‘graveyard shift’ for 35 years. When the sum came up, it was time to hit the sack. I missed my calling, should have been a vampire, but I don’t like the taste of blood. I’ve always been a fussy eater. Turns out to be a good thing.
Ahh poor guy. However, he unlike many of us, knows his lot in life; has learned to accept his status, but more importantly, knows how to deal with the situation. And like in the military, in an artillery barrage, you duck and cover or in Brutus’s case, grin and bear it…..
I don’t think it’s just born losers who feel that way at times. Even very successful people have moments when they just don’t want to face the day, and what they might have to deal with.

Don’t be so negative, Brutus: you have a nice family, except your mother-in-law; good job, excluding Rancid….well, maybe you’re right.
But we readers love you.

Is this what is called an ‘antithesis’ to yesterday’s comic where Thornapple arrives bright and early at 7:30 am for work?

Brutus, you never quit, though, even knowing what you know. ♥

My built in alarm clock (bladder) is afraid of the sunrise. That’s why it wakes me by 4 am.

Early to bed and early to rise, makes old Brutus want to roll over and close his eyes.

That’s ok Brutus. Better to duck and cover than to quack up.

15 more years to early retire Brutus – if your heart is still ticking. Rise and shine – put on your happy face.

After the last couple days Brutus’s reluctance to go to the office is understandable.

If you’re still in bed when the sun comes up, you’re a loser.
