So, when it comes right (sorry) down to it, Ukraine cares more about HAVING good fighters than what their politics is. Seems reasonable to me. And Rall cares more about finding something to gripe about than anything else.

Putin is losing the war, his country, and his life. But he can console himself with fact that he still has Ted Rall as a supporter.

Aside from Russia, hard to find any countries that were part of the Soviet Union that do not have a fair number of nazis.

Ted, it makes me wonder if you understand the relationship between Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and Ukraine during WWII. How the Soviets treated the Ukrainians before, during and after the war. The forced relocation of Ukrainian citizens. The mistreatment and abuse of Ukrainian orphans. The deliberate starvation of Ukraine amidst mountains of food.

Ukrainians remember. Do I want them to be Nazis? No. But I understand why some would sport Nazi regalia when fighting Russian soldiers.

Take some time to watch the old Soviet propaganda films made during the war. The Russians are still today fighting that same propaganda war against Ukraine.

Russia is not, has never been, our friend. The best we can hope for is friendly rivals.

There probably should be a panel for pre-2022, along the lines of “Ukraine’s Got a Real Problem with Far-Right Violence” – an article from 2018 from the Atlantic Council, fer cripes sake, a neoliberal organization. Of course, the Atlantic Council conveniently neglects to mention neo-Nazi and outright Nazi elements.

Once again Ted Rall zeroes in and exposes lies and hypocrisy. Our established press corps is basically a propaganda machine. Not even a very good one at that.

The Ukraine government is not fascist nor Nazi. It is a republic. Freedom under Ukraine’s constitution, like most all republics, allows citizens to believe as they choose. In the U.S. we have fascist citizens, fascist elected office holders and even had a fascist president. Yet, like Ukraine, by majority rule we are still a republic. We are not communal communists.

This cartoon is a great sendup of the poor reporting on this issue. But not the actual issue.

The Azov battalion “nazis” and their ilk aren’t a new National Socialist Workers’ Party – they’re nationalists who don’t like Russians (with a liberal dose on antisemitism thrown in). In WW2 the actual Nazis inflicted so much death, destruction and misery on Russia that it’s left a helluva imprint on the Russian psyche. So if you’re a Ukrainian nationalist from the sticks, still seething over the Holodomor, the best FU to Russia is to start sporting swastikas.

The current Russian state is no less (and in many respects more) nationalist, antisemitic and fascist than the admittedly troubled Ukrainian state, it’s just they would never use nazi symbolism. All the debate over “where are the nazis” is focusing on symbols at the expense of context.

Yes, anti-Semitism is a serious problem throughout eastern Europe. Also parts of western Europe. Also the United States. And the head of the Wagner Group has prominent Nazi tattoos, and I don’t doubt for a minute that most of his conscripts, and much of the Russian army, are also anti-Semites. So what’s your point?

What’s your point here, Mr. Rall? I read this last week in the NY Times. Yes, they have a problem with ultra-right wing factions in Ukrainian society and in their military. That does not make Ukraine a Nazi country. That does not justify Russia’s invasion.

I had hoped that Mr. Rall was giving up on his program of support for Putin’s unprovoked and savage invasion of Ukraine . I should have known better. He is resolved to ignore that Ukrainians had been starved, among other things, by Stalin and, at first, viewed the invading Germans as liberators.

I don’t recall you defending Saddam Hussein like this, you were simply against imperialist wars. Why is it when Russia launches an imperialist war, you take the side of the imperialists?

Russian state TV host Evgeny Popov said, "The investigation against Trump has to do with the disappearance of secret documents from the White House, related to the development of new nuclear weapons by the United States… Obviously, if there were any important documents, they’ve been studying them in Moscow for a while. What’s the point of searching?”

Dmitry Drobnitsky, who is described as an “Americanologist,” declared in one segment that “none of the leading presidential candidates will make it to the 2024 elections as free men.”

“It’s time for us to take advantage of this,” Drobnitsky said. "The new cornerstone of our foreign policy should be to constantly demonstrate the toxicity of the American world, the Pax Americana that previously suited everyone.”

“Let all the flowers bloom, as long as our adversaries are allergic to them… We should do whatever we can to shove them out of our Eurasia,” he said.

Drobnitsky also said that the pro-Russian talking points disseminated by Robert F Kennedy Jr.’s participation in the campaign will be a good thing for Moscow.

“Let’s release a story where we’ll write that Biden was personally getting $10 million for every day of the war in Ukraine. Who can prove it isn’t so? There are so many criminal cases out there!” he said.

Ukraine was complicit in the killing of Jews during WWII. 1.5 million Jews were killed by collaborators in Ukraine, along with Belarus and perhaps a couple other Soviet republics, before the Germans built their killing centers at Birkenau, Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec, and Majdanek. Anti-Semitism has always run high in Ukraine and remains high even today.

Ukraine and government corruption are nearly synonymous. Millions of US aid has gone to corrupt government officials since the Russian invasion. Yes, we should support Ukraine in the war against Putin’s Russia. But being invaded by a worse country doesn’t make Ukraine a pillar of human rights and democracy. Zalensky is much less corrupt than his predecessor but I wouldn’t call him clean, nor would I count on his successor to be less corrupt than Zalensky. And I wouldn’t bet on anti-Semitism to improve much, either.
