The City of Philadelphia and SEPTA have been very slow to adopt air conditioning. Many public schools are dismissed early or get a “heat day” off because they predate the First World War. The Market-Frankford Subway-Elevated cars weren’t air conditioned until 1997-1999.
97F yesterday and the A/C never kicked in. Since I wake up early, I open windows to cool and air out the house. 64F this morning, so I don’t think it will work today.
I heard someone complaining about a farmer whose tractor was enclosed and air conditioned. The farmer explained that with air conditioning, he could work non-stop — day and night — without having to worry about a heat stroke or heat exhaustion. After that it actually made sense.
Most people work better if they’re reasonably comfortable. This is important at all times, but it is especially important when you’re doing in life and death situations such as police are.

They need a better venue… OTOH, no AC means rent is cheap.
