I had a Horsecrab in my aquarium, I wished I didn’t. There was no room for it to swim, it finally crawled into the sand and died. THEY don’t belong in aquariums. I couldn’t release it into the ocean, too far away, take it back to the store? Somebody else would put it into an aquarium. NO WIN!
The beautiful story of how Khemjira Klongsanun found her puppy is here and there is a video showing it too. She is an amazing lady who’s house has over 20 dogs and 30 cats, all rescues. https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/thai-woman-rescues-puppy-running-marathon-now-theyre-family-video/
Given that dolphins and whales are all sub-species of cetaceans it really isn’t that unusual. It used to be common practice in aquariums such as Marineland and Seaworld to have pilot whales, porpoises and dolphins together
Their name notwithstanding, horseshoe crabs are not true crabs or crustaceans. They are chelicerates, most closely related to arachnids (spiders, scorpions & ticks).
I’m not sure either maternal or paternal is the best word to use here; I think perhaps “adoptive” relationship would be better. Surely other dolphins have maternal and paternal relationships all the time with their actual descendants?

Really, no one is going to say “paternal” should be “maternal?”

If only the horseshoe crab would’ve cared for an orphaned baby shrimp or something we’d have 3-3 on adoptions!

Maternal, not paternal – the dolphin is a female. Not sure how that one got into print! One more casualty of eliminating editors, I suppose.

It must be uncomfortable for horses to get crabs on their shoes. Probably more uncomfortable to get them somewhere else.

Uh, what was the species of the adopted whale?

If the bottlenose adopted the orphan as “her” own, wouldn’t that be a maternal relationship?

different species can get along…man is one species…why can’t we get along?
