It’s nice to know that you are wanted by the company. However, l doubt that the boss would lay off someone of high level management as it probably wouldn’t be enough. As Brutus is mid level management, he should be of the targeted group for laying off. He isn’t because he is to valuable but the Boss is too stubborn and won’t admit it…..
When a CEO makes 3000 the amount as a front line worker (i.e. cashier, department manager) at a grocery store … something needs to change, and that’s the greedy culture of the upper management.
Reign in the salaries, reduce costs for food, give employees in the store a raise, and you’d find yourself making more money than you would expect. When people can afford to buy stuff, they will.
that’s the way it is these days, it’s not how good you are, it’s how much you make. They’d rather pay an idiot a little, then someone smart who makes a lot. They don’t see the trade off.
When I worked for a United Way agency, we started experiencing layoffs. In our case, it was by seniority, not by salary. My supervisor warned me that I’d probably be next to go because of when I was hired. Fortunately, I found another job before that happened, so there was no gap in my paycheck.
My dog and I spent 4 hours yesterday at the hospital. 6 hours today. For free. During today’s 6 hours I got a call from my child who was all packed and ready with her family to go on a vacation. They took their dog to doggy day care only to be refused over a medical issue she has had all her life and has stayed at the same boarding place before, many times. I got a frantic call. I agreed to go get my grand-pug. I might not make any income from the work I do, but I know I will get something out of this. The guilt will eat my child up. I teased her about it – she said she left a chicken in the fridge for me. I just laughed. Realistically, it will be a rough week, though. I have appointments scheduled every day all week and will have to drop the dog off at her own home when I am out due to last visit’s deposits on my carpet. She snorts and makes weird noises in her sleep, and the folds in her pushed in face don’t smell so great. She is a sweet little pooper, though, and will cuddle up with me for hours. My dog gets along with her great. But the guilt. We had agreed I would not be taking her this time due to my surgery and two procedures in less than two weeks recently. No way was I going to ruin their trip and say no at this point.

Don’t tell me there’s someone there besides yourself that makes a significant salary. I won’t believe it.

Looks like Brutus may have just dodged another bullet.

Inflation has been eating into their profits.
Do you mean to tell me that during periods of high inflation nobody is out buying brand new tea cozies?

Significant salary… that can only mean one thing, it was nice knowing you boss!

Unfortunately that’s not how it works. Most companies layoff the underlings then gives management a big bonus.
Chris over 1 year ago
does that mean his boss is fired. :D

Less is more Brutus. Be thankful.

Poor Brutus. On the one hand, he gets to keep his job, on the other, he now realizes he’s substantially underpaid. A mixed blessing at best.

And you just got your work doubled Brutus .

Actually, the Boss writes off Brutus as an “insignificant expense” on his taxes.

It would seem your job is safe for now, Brutus.

If you let significant salary go – often you would be losing more profit if that person were actually making you bigger income.

And that is why unions are formed.

How about yourself, Mr. Veeblefester, you’re the highest paid employee in the company!

I guess there’s a blessing in there somewhere, but relax Brutus, it’s hard to find an underpaid whipping boy.

I think Veeblefester is right about company profits, there is not a money bag in sight.

Plus he needs Brutus to be his scapegoat for all his problems, real and imagined. Job security there

If it has to be someone with a significant salary, maybe Veebs should fire himself.
