I have experienced this. Often the person you try to explain something to just can’t figure it out, no matter how simple you try to make it. And if you over simplify things they get angry. No win situation.
Once had a retail customer from Delaware who tried to tell us that since there’s no sales tax in Delaware, he did not have to pay sales tax anywhere including in the shop where I was working in Pennsylvania. Took a good bit of convincing from both staff and other customers that he didn’t have some sort of universal sales tax immunity when he left his home state.
Technically, the Christmas Clearance sales do come before Christmas. It might be the better part of a year before Christmas, but it is before Christmas
