And I’m hearing Looney Tunes music in the background.

Calvin, the supposed tough kid? Scared of a television/football? Yep!

A little scared of the ball? No he’s a lot scared of the ball.

That is a safe assumption.

Poor Calvin.

Calvin imagined a ball which Hobbes threw to him as a safe. This is another example of Hobbes being shown as part of Calvin’s reality rather than his imagination.

Hobbes doesn’t understand Calvin’s remark about the crater as he doesn’t know how Calvin saw the ball. Sometimes though, Hobbes understands Calvin enough to take the advantage away from him.

Calvin ran to the ball then imagined it as a safe and ducked away from it! He was running to the ball but his imagination ran away with him again!

It’s good how Calvin saw the ball as a safe and then we saw it as a ball when Calvin turned away from it. The same kind of thing happens when other characters see Hobbes as a stuffed doll and they turn away from him and we see him as a living tiger again.

It’s all fun and games, until you get one landing in your face. Unfortunately for me, they never were on accident, during Phys Ed. I hate my school…

I was afraid of the ball when I was his age too. One of the reasons I never took up baseball.

Okay, for the record, a football has a pointy end and hurts when it hits you, but you don’t catch it. Been there. Done that. It’s not chicken to duck.

I remember feeling like that when I was playing outfielder (baseball) and a pop-fly was heading straight for me. :D. (I was NOT a good catcher)

Discretion is the better part of valor.

My sympathies are with Calvin.

For those of us with poor hand eye co-ordination, an incoming missile can be terrifying.

Given their respective sizes, wouldn’t you be?

Where is the Road Runner or Wiley Coyote when Calvin needs him…

Did Calvin fall asleep during a TV discussion, about football being SAFE for young kids ?

I never enjoyed that part of soccer where you get hit in the face with the ball. :)

If you ever got hit in the face with one, you would be stupid not to be!

That was some punt by Hobbes. Too bad the NFL doesn’t sign tigers.

It’s totally natural. The perverts and masochists are the ones who eagerly try to catch the ball.
