No experience here. Does that make it all better?

Abandonment issues, valid.

I just spent a week in the hospital. I had someone looking after my cats, but when I got back home, my friend told me that she’d only seen one of the three. The other two popped out of hiding within half an hour and have been extremely affectionate since then. I think they knew I was sick.

Reminds me of the relationship I had with my cat in his adult years going on elderly. He loved looking out the window, but hated other cats. He’d go ballistic when he saw one outside, and would hiss and swipe at me when I’d try to get him down from the window. When he finally calmed down later, he’d want to be all affectionate and purring when I was still irritated with him and not in the mood for his attentions.

Not forgiven until nightfall.

Decades ago when I was single, a friend of a friend picked me up in a bear hug every time we met, even after I repeatedly asked him to not to pick me up.

When he eventually asked for my number, being dyslexic, I could tell I probably transposed the numbers. Considered asking our friend to verify, but then decided the mistake was probably for the best.

He was a lawyer who’d just gotten his first promotion and a new boat. Wanted me to go out with him and “have a fun summer.”

Being alone with a guy who never heard the word “no” didn’t feel safe to me. So, I stopped going out with that group of friends when that guy would be around.

Told my then best friend about this later, and he agreed it was a good decision. He’s a tall, quiet engineer with a very clever sense of humor, who loves playing hockey.

A few weeks later when my best friend was leaving town after visiting us, he very gently lifted me up as he hugged me goodbye. I didn’t even realize my feet had left the ground until they were softly touching down again, and looked up to see him with a knowing little grin.

Timing never worked out for us to date, and we went on to be happily married to other people, but that moment of a man demonstrating that he understood boundaries, body language, and consent is a fond memory.

So like my two furballs.

Cats. Gotta love ’em! On THEIR terms.

Hateful creatures. You can have them.

They’re peeved you left them, later happy to see you.

This is the truth

Cats were once treated as Gods and they have NOT forgotten that.

Our 5 month old kitten does this, he has a thing for out ears.

Cats do things on their own terms!

Our female tortoise shell would always shun us for a day after we returned from a vacation, then go back to her normal sweet self. Our male tuxedo was like a line from one of our favorite “Far Side” cartoons: “You were gone?”

Whenever I hear of someone or some group “seeking an agreement” I ask myself “On whose terms?”.

JJ obviously owns a cat. They will be mad at you the first day back for leaving them alone. And make up to you when they are ready. Could be later or the next day.

Take him back with you, the Burmese pythons are always looking for a snack.

I once had a Siamese cat who could count. If I was a way for a weekend, once I got home she’d run away for two days. If I went on a week’s vacation, once I got back, she’d run away for a week.

Cats decided when they want to be friendly… and there’s no apparent pattern
