When I was a kid we had a neighbor who had a greyhound. I would often go into the yard & play with the dog. Weâd race around the yard & I swear he sometimes let me win. (Incidentally, I had no idea who the humans of the house were!)
Many years ago a friend of mine was part of an animal rescue organization and rescued a greyhound due to be euthanized (conditions for dogs at race tracks are deplorable and their âcareersâ are only a few years). The dogâs name was Sometimes and my friend often brought her over to play with my Golden Retriever. Sometimes would run in circles and Morgan would try to keep up, only to give up and sit and watch her run. (In between these bursts of high energy, Sometimes was a couch potato.)
Seems like a great opportunity to refer readers to the (excellent) âRed and Roverâ compilation books: âA Boy, A Dog, A Time, A Feeling,â âWagginâ Talesâ and âRed and Rover: Funâs Never Over.â
Greyhound racing was HUGE in N Colorado in the 70s and 80s. An acquaintance bought 10 acres outside of Longmont and had a greyhound no-euthanize rescue preserve. The greyhound used to go racing with her horses.
Itâs always so nice to see these two playing outside, getting exercise, and not sitting indoors playing on some video game or watching mind-numbing TV shows while they eat constantly.
