And when they find Shangri-La, they don’t want to stay there (James Hilton, Lost Horizon, 1933).

Humans aren’t weird; we’re animals. (Okay, maybe a little weird.) As with all animals, humans struggle to obtain resources to survive. Lacking struggle, Utopia would be boring. Unless there’s chocolate.

“Utopia” (Gk ou topos) actually means “no place.” That’s why Sir Thomas More called it that.

Depends on how you define utopia. Enjoying the moment. Enjoying the people important in your life. Enjoying nature. Enjoying a good book. And so on.

Maybe it might be as simple as that?

How can it be “utopia” if people don’t like it?

Utopia literally means “no place,” so by definition, it can’t exist:

The word utopia was coined in 1516 from Ancient Greek by the Englishman Sir Thomas More for his Latin text Utopia. It literally translates as “no place”, coming from the Greek: οὐ (“not”) and τόπος (“place”), and meant any non-existent society, when ‘described in considerable detail’.—Wikipedia

It is the journey, not the destination, that is important.

For better and for worse being critical is very much part of the human condition.

If I could design a perfect world for myself, many of you might not like it as much as I did

    Some might hate it

I might not enjoy your idea of a perfect world either

The Eloi found a utopia and proved that ignorance is bliss…until eaten. I’ll take knowledge and strife, myself.
