It’s very helpful the way most commenters voluntarily explain the joke of today’s strip for the rest of us! How generous!

AI isn’t new and the “dangers” have always been there, but it wasn’t until the media turned it into a bugaboo that folks started fretting about it.

Alexis, now that the powers that be have dumbed down humans to this point with social media, what is the next step in AI takeover?”

“Artificial” is all it will ever be. The brain is the most complicated object in the known universe, housing 86 billion neurons, no two alike and each connected to thousands of other neurons, passing signals to one another across as many as 100 trillion synaptic checkpoints. And GAWD, the traffic generated by those neurons and synaptic checkpoints! Those thoughts are infinite and varied for EACH of us. AI can “remember” whatever is fed into it, BUT it can never initiate new thoughts.

I have both. Alexa was a gift from a friend and the Google thing was free. I use the Google thing in the morning when my eyeballs don’t want to open and I want to know what time it is. I use Alexa for music when I’m sewing and to track packages. I use both when asking for the days’ forecast. Google doesn’t annoy me with suggestions about books, music or things I bought in the past. I don’t have anything on my phone like Siri. My GPS is name Brad. I’ve had it / him for 40 years and it/he works just fine.

I prefer my dog to anything or anyone else. He never complains, never lies to me, never steals from me, never talks behind my back, and if I ever get to the point that I think all my friends have left me…my dog is still here.

Too much technology – a cry that has echoed down through the ages – ever since one human saw another human generating a fire by rubbing two sticks together…

I have both Alexis and Siri disabled on my devices. When not in use, I also turn them off.

This is why I ended spending most of my week with Amazon customer service. Four days of not figuring out something basic. Then that mess leads to an Amazon page of mine. 6 hours each for three days getting past the AI figuring out the difference between a web page and items on the page because I confirmed two tickets for the page to be fixed and instead of telling me something went wrong, Amazon waited for me to come to them and ask what was happening and it turned out they erased two tickets. They kept ending the conversion when I asked ‘when will it be fixed?’ and ’why was no one a responsible adult about this?

Or Norm could ask his girlfriend. (Unless she’s busy with the House.)
