The idea Janis has for a bedroom is just room for the bed.

You have to pass through the closet to get to the bedroom.

I never invested in the stock market. I invested in clothes. Both go up and down.

This reminds me that I have to go through my clothes to see what can be donated. After 20 years of thinking that some day I’ll be able to wear my 34" waist pants again it’s time to face reality.

I’ve often told my husband the same thing. I don’t need a big BEDROOM. Just put a bed in a tiny room and then make the closet ROOM-sized.

Hmm… With bunk beds it might work.

The wife is talking about us building a new home. I told her to add one extra bedroom just to be her walk-in closet.

The good news, Arlo, is that you’ll be nice and close in the bedroom.

I once had a boss who built an addition to their house for her shoe closet. It’s possible she was pulling our legs, but I took it seriously at the time.

Serious questions: Are the stories true that I hear about most women having a compulsion to own many, many shoes? If so, why?

    As a guy, I can’t fathom it.

We ran out of storage space (manufactured home, no basement, no attic). So we (well, hubby) closed in the back deck 10×12 and it now looks like a porch but is in fact a large closet. If we ever sell (or the kids do later) it can still be a 4 season porch as it has a minisplit. A little pricey but cheaper in the long run than a storage area.

When we had a big reno/remod before we moved in we had a walk-in closet made the size of a small bedroom. The Mrs says it’s the best decision I ever made.

Years ago, my husband, Aunt, and I went to a home show. One of the houses had a two tiered walk in closet with a “library” ladder. It took my husband 10 minutes to get my Aunt and I out of that closet. I think he tried just walking away with his “I’m not with them” look.

Many, many years ago , my apartment dwelling Aunt and Uncle, sort of did the opposite. When their daughter was born, they made a walk-in closet her bedroom.(I was young enough to find that fascinating.)

Years ago~ my bud purchased an early 1900 house that needed a lot of love. The master bedroom was large. There was a large hall closet ‘10 by 12’. My bud knocked a hole for a doorway into the hall closet turning the master closet. The the hall doorway was moved & plastered over.My bud showed his eventual wife the rebuilt master closet. She seriously asked where he would put his stuff. Today she has 95% of the shoe rack & 80% of the shelves, hangers & drawers.

We have smaller closets than either had in our bedrooms at our parents’ houses – and they were not large closets. To make it even better none of the upstairs closets are full height.

He has the closet in the bedroom next to the front wall which has the front roof line coming down through it on the outside wall side. My closet is next to his and has the ceiling of the staircase from below coming up the floor. Closets are about 2.5 feet each across. I fit everything I need to in my closet. He has the clothing he could not fit in his closet in mine. Similarly the closets in our office – one has the roof line coming through it and the other has the staircase rising through it. There is one closet in the teddys’ room and a linen closet in the hall – both have the roof line coming down through them. There is a front hall closet downstairs for coats and such – it is full height, but not as big as the upstairs closets.
