I’m a woman who is too skeptical for affirmations.

As a woman, Irving, we’re glad you’re not one too. (◔_◔) We’re a fun yet tough bunch, and we don’t want your whining. Glad Cathy puts up with you, but many of us wouldn’t.

Hello Cathy friends! Happy Friday! Have a great day, all!

I don’t even have a problem with affirmations, just that kind of phrasing. Doesn’t work for me. “I am present for miracles…” “I am a unique and gifted spirit…” This probably says more about my cynicism than about anything else, but I feel that’s got too much “Live, laugh, love” vibes. Too much advertisement in a ladies’ magazine vibes. I’d prefer affirmations like “SOMEthing good’s bound to happen” or “I’m not perfect, but I’m okay.”

Affirmations should be very private because I certainly don’t want to hear about them. “Wishful thinking” can only take you so far.

Émile Coué, a French psychologist and pharmacist, came up with the autosuggestion phrase “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better”.

Today the phrase is often associated with scam artists and “get-well-quick” psychological fads, usually accompanied by a sales pitch for homeopathic remedies or scented candles. :)

Irving, you’re just not good enough to be a woman.

    Nowhere near good enough.

I am not sure Irving is good enough to be a man either.

    Enjoy this fine Friday.

Personally, I like affirmations. I receive a few e-mails each day with them, and they’re helpful. To each his/her own, though.

Also: I’m sure the slap from comic Cathy is coming in panel 5 on this one …

HI, MOM. Happy Late Friday, Clan.
