Once December arrives there is no limit. It’s only “out of hand” when you see “Christmas” decorations in stores in October and radio stations are playing “Christmas” music in early November. This cheapens the experience of what should be a special time of year. People are so sick of this stuff that by mid-December they are wishing the holidays were over.

This is sad because we need a special time of year to look forward to. A time to take a break from the daily grind and enjoy some much-needed time off. Running in constant high gear 24/7/365 isn’t healthy and leads to burn-out. No wonder there is such a foul mood in this country these days. There needs to be a rhythm to life.

(You may have noticed that I put “Christmas” in quotes. That’s because what is being celebrated in these instances isn’t the holiday. It’s all about greed, commercialism, materialism and crass consumerism.)

Anybody notice how Jimbo is beginning to wear his cap in the house again, as he did years ago?

The more stuff that dangles temptingly, the more the kitty will like it.

Peekaboo approves. So does Pasquale. Jimbo doesn’t want to spoil the fun, even if it drives him nuts.

I over decorate in the house (4 Christmas trees – big one living room, Williamsburg brass ornaments on small tree in “colonial tavern” dining room, items made by us on small tree in our studio and bear ornaments on small tree in “the Teddy Village” in the upstairs hall). Plus decorations in most rooms.

I was listening to some members our reenactment unit discussing Christmas decorating at their houses and how they all (including husband) tend towards decorating as was done when they children. Then it hit me – this is true of me also. But since I am Jewish and we did not decorate for Christmas, my childhood influence is EVERY Christmas movie I have ever seen! (Realizing this did not in anyway change my decorating style.)
