Either make common sense reforms to immigration or go after those that hire them. Right now, there is no incentive for legal immigration.

The Wall

The one and only item of Republican immigration policy. I guess they still also believe that Mexico will pay for it.

Most of the border is shoreline.

I think it’s more like “Let me fix your roof.” “Let me pick the lettuces for your salad”. “Let my children work in your meat packing plant for minimum wage.” “I will do any work you wouldn’t be caught dead doing.”

Trump will get his wall… after he’s convicted.

Scott, we know EXACTLY where that border begins and ends. There is no question about it. Our sovereingty is intact.

The problem is Congress. They continue fail to set down the law.

So Bush writes Executuve Orders one way. Then Obama the other. Then Trump. Then Biden.

You see a pattern here? There is no stability. There is nothing we can count on.

This is a problem the White House can’t fix.

Victims of trafficking might receive some benefits. Y’know, crime victims of modern day slavery. . .

Claim: “American taxpayer dollars provide “free housing, free medical, free state identification” to immigrants in the country illegally.”

False.

Free housing. Typically ineligible for federal Department of Housing and Urban Development housing programs. To qualify for public housing or HUD-subsidized housing, a person “must be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen with an eligible immigration status,” an agency spokesperson said.

An immigrant who was a trafficking victim is an example of someone with an eligible immigration status who may qualify for a housing program. (A 2000 law made victims of trafficking eligible for benefits and services under any federal or state program.)

“Free medical.” Eligible for emergency Medicaid, if they are eligible for their state’s Medicaid program. Medicaid will cover the treatment of an emergency medical condition, including labor and delivery.

“Free state identification.” It is unclear if any states specifically allow immigrants living in the country illegally to get state IDs for free. Some states waive ID fees for certain groups of people, including seniors and people with low income. Some states allow immigrants living in the U.S. illegally to obtain driver’s licenses.

“Free college.” We found no evidence of free college specifically for this group. Washington D.C. and 17 states offer in-state tuition to immigrants living in the U.S. illegally, and some offer state financial aid.

“Free daycare.” Ineligible in most cases. Victims of trafficking who are in the U.S. illegally may qualify for benefits from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. In some cases, funds from that program can be used to pay for childcare.

I’m not even sure what point Stantis is making, since if it was anti-immigrant, it seems odd that he would pick two of the best comic strips of all time to illustrate it.

May the spirits of Charles Schulz and E. C. Segar cause the hard drive with all the copied-and-pasted images for this strip to crash and lose everything.

The wall was always a dumb idea

“These people are hungry and asking for food. What shall we do?” “Get them out of here and build a wall to keep them away.” What a wonderful, heartwarming holiday season message.

Where do we build the wall? How about around Mar-a-Lago as a start?

The real parallel would be if the characters who already had strips on the comics page or website were appalled at intruding interlopers like Prickly City. (The website is a better parallel, because adding a new strip doesn’t mean an old one has to be dropped. More strips bring in more readers, and there’s plenty of room for more of each.)

Feeding Wimpy would be more expensive than building the wall
