The only time I ever used captions was when I was watching British mysteries on PBS with my mother. For some reason, the actors on those programs have a propensity to let their voices drop. On one program, Midsomer Murders, Mom referred to the main character as Chief Inspector Mumbles.

The funniest closed captions I have ever seen were on a cooking show. The various kitchen sounds were described on the screen.
Whisking noises: Wsksksksksksk
Crinkling noises: crinklecrinklecrinkle
