Start assigning chores, Elly. Both John and Elizabeth should be helping out and even little April can be learning how to make her bed and pick up her toys.
From Lynn’s Comments: There is some satisfaction in seeing my daughter doing and saying these exact same things; yet another joy of having grandchildren.
My wife managed a successful career and managed and kept the home full time with no complaint while I was a road warrior for my company. In retirement I am trying to even up the score a little.
I was raised by a SAHM and my dad. I had three brothers and we all shared in helping out around the house both indoors and outdoors. Both my mom and dad cooked. It was good training for all of us. My wife along with all my sister-in-law’s all have complimented my parents for raising men who willingly share all the household responsibilities.
I remember when I was a preteen, besides washing dishes, I did make up my own bed and keep my bedroom straight because I didn’t want anybody “messing around” in MY ROOM.
I must be getting old. I remember that my brothers and I had chores to help our SAHM, but the only one I really remember is doing the dishes. Perhaps that’s because it was the only chore that involved all three of us – one to wash, one to rinse and one to dry. We rotated those positions every week and Mom had to keep a calendar for it because we all wanted to be the “rinser”, the easiest of the three jobs. Before she started keeping that calendar, we argued about it a lot.

And every day she b!tches about it, but does nothing to change the situation!!
Surprising how the rest of the family can stand her “martyrdom” and career as a drama queen!!

Liz, you could try helping by picking up after yourself and doing the dishes.

It wasn’t all that long ago that she was grieving Mike being away at college and she couldn’t clean up after him…..I guess she got over it!

All those bean meals sure gave Elly extra energy. On top of that she is getting plenty of exercise.
Unlike some fat and lazy people who end up in the waiting room, you won’t see Elly be a drain on OHIP!

Yes, the kids should have chores and responsibilities.
