Bug zappers are bad. Department of Entomology and Applied Ecology at the University of Delaware spent 10 weeks analyzing bug zappers. Altogether, over 13,000 insects were zapped and collected. 99.75% of the insects were beneficial insects. Only 0.25% were mosquitoes.
So, that’s what it takes for Garfield to eat less: the thought of dead bugs in the food. Evidently, Jon sees no problem in adding extra protein to his burger.

Cats love eating bugs! By far, the most common food found in cats’ stomachs during autopsies is lots of insects.

I can’t tell if Garfield only just noticed this problem or he only just started to care.

Reminded me of the episode of ‘Married with Children’ where Al’s barbecue ashes were replaced by the kids with the ashes of Marcy’s dead Aunt.
