Cobalt isn’t exactly cheap. Assuming this strip was first published in 2000, then it was selling for ~$16,000 per metric ton, which yields $48 million in inventory. That sort of highly useful metal should be something they could move in a hurry.
Today (March 2024) it’s selling for ~$28,000/metric ton.
