I requested turn up service once, and got a plate of root vegetables.

I would have requested “Go Down Service”

Well, as long as you serviced him after you turned him down I don’t see much of a problem.

Hmm … it looks like the blond has “that look” in her eye …

I guess she’ll be “hand maid” today.

Lexical semantics can ruin a good time.

1985, I’d never heard of “turn down service”. I was on my first business trip and a few coworkers were planning to go for a swim after we settled in. I’d just put on my swimsuit (and nothing else) when there was a knock. Assuming it was my coworker I flung the door open and found two pretty young ladies in Hotel maid attire with a small bucket. After they got over the initial start, one said “turn down service”. I was lost, pretty young ladies had often turned me down, I didn’t consider it much of a service. Seeing my confusion, she tried again “turn down the bed”. To which I replied “Is it too loud?”. Finally she said “here, have a mint” and they left. During this exchange my coworker emerged from his room across the hall and was laughing his butt off.

When will you learn Turn down service isn’t what you think…..

For all you travelers, consider leaving a couple dollars per day for the hotel housekeeper. They have a tough job, I doubt it pays well. Even at a roadside motel.

At least he got a chocolate on his pillow.

“Are you sure he didn’t say go down service?”

Think of it as a happy accident.
