You can make a syrup from any treeās sap. The flavor of the product varies somewhat. Iāve had locust and hickory syrup but maple is still my favorite.
A friend, in Geauga County, taps trees in the surrounding neighborhoods, and has a place to make maple syrup. He calls it the Sugar Shack! Yum! How sweet it is! āŗļø
We had a maple tree in our side yard when I was growing up, and Mom would tap the tree every few years. Weād make maple taffy or syrup out of it. So good!
Whatever you do, donāt ever think of buying a dairy and milking your own fresh milk. Heaven only knows what you will buy and what hospital you will end up atā¦.
And it only works on certain Maple Trees, Sugar Maple to be precise. Tap the Red Maples on my Alma Materās campus, and you wouldnāt get a drop of maple syrup.

They cut down the maples across the street which used to be so pretty in the fall. I have several oaks.
