I wouldn’t say anything. I know by experience (not involving vermin, I assure you) that I’d be polite and stop to get something to eat on the way home. Poor Oliver, however, doesn’t have that option.
Sweet Ollie is too polite. We went to a dinner party once where I swear the hostess used a teaspoon to put dinner on the plates. She served everyone and there was silence. Everyone had the same thought. Dale made himself a sandwich when we got back home.
Years ago we went to an outdoor concert at Mission Bay. Most of us took picnic food and sat on the ground. The section right in front of us was reserved and had little table and chairs and people paid in advance for their meal. The couple got served and they guy looked at his ask asked ’Where’s the rest of it"? When they finished he got up to leave and the wife/girlfriend wanted to know where he was going. “To get a hotdog or something to eat.”
I hope Oliver’s having a good time, even though he’s not getting enough to eat. It was nice of the mice to invite him. It’s probably for the best that they didn’t invite Lily, though. (Or Chesney, for that matter.) On another note, saw eight Juncos, three robins, and a wren while out walking today.

I would eat before going to a mouse’s birthday party. Wait – I wouldn’t go to a mouse’s birthday party.

Poor Oliver. A tiny piece of cake just isn’t enough for him.
