I caught on to the printer ink scam many years ago. I use my printer only as a scanner. On the very rare occasions when I need to print something, I take the file to Fedex, very close to me. Less than a dollar a page.
My wife and I use toner printers. Thousands of pages and we replace the toner on her printer about once every two years to the tune of $25 for two cartridges.
My toner lasts about twice as long. I print about a page a day. My printer is also about 15 years old. I am surprised that it still works with Windows 11.
We can’t do color, but somehow managed to get along without it for decades.
I rarely print anything on my Ink Cartridge Printer. Mostly just my Tax Forms, once a year. A couple of years ago, I had a Cartridge Problem. I wasn’t gonna get replacement cartridges in time, so I ended up sending pretty pink forms to the IRS that year… ☺
I have a Canon printer that takes 2 cartridges. The black cartridge runs out pretty fast, then it uses the color cartridge. It’s much more convenient than having to run to Fedex every time I want to print something
Amazing, or just frustrating, that Amend said this 21 years ago. Still the business model for ink printers. If my county had not had a free electronics recycling event, I’d have taken a sledge hammer to our previous HP inkjet for all the troubles it caused. The replacement Canon laser is a god-send.
Simple solution, Andy. Invest in a laser printer. I’ve had great luck and experiences with Brother brand laser printers. You can get a no color printer (non-wireless) for under $99. We’ve currently got a Brother MFC-L3780CDW and it’s awesome! Wasn’t cheap, though…

Tech support was planning to wait until she was on the toilet before responding, but they mistimed the response.

Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new printer, then to buy replacement cartridges for an old printer.
