Maybe some of the pitches intended for the inside part of the plate end up at the batter’s body because pitchers aren’t always that accurate. OTOH, maybe some are intended to be at the head, like if a hitter has a double and a homer already that day, and the pitcher is sending a message.

I’ve never understood brushback pitches; why not just throw strikes on the inside. The batter can’t hit them and will have to back off or strike out.
