Have you seen the new commercials from the plastic PAC saying that plastic is okay because it can be recycled? The problem is that it’s not being done since it’s usually too expensive. So whether or not it CAN be done, it’s still ending up in the oceans.

I recently read a report, from myriad quite respected and knowledgeable environmental scientists, that continuing on the path we weave now that weight for weight by 2050 our oceans will contain more plastic waste than marine life. Do we all just shrug our shoulders and say “Meh”?

On the main island of Fiji, Coca-Cola pays about 5 cents for certain plastic bottles. Some fishermen cast their nets where one of the two rivers empty into the ocean. They can make $400 a day! Is this sad or what?

Canada’s solution to trash disposal is to send it here to Michigan. We should send our trash to Canada. If we keep trading it back and forth it won’t get anywhere near the ocean.

We should go back to paper bags (renewable), returnable glass bottles, and a required somewhat large deposit on the bottles to insure their return. At least if people keep throwing them out, they will be picked up and returned for the deposit. How bad to you want it?

Reusing plastic bags, and other items, as much as possible can help. Finding ways to be environmentally-friendly can be tough, but it’s well worth it.

    Happy Sunday, Crew.

Any plastic bags I still have are washed and re-used until they leak then I shred them before disposal. Now switching to Bio-bags that will eventually decompose. I reuse those too.

one f my pet peeves is that almost each time I order take our, I get plastic fork, spoons and knives wrapped in more plastic. Most of the time I don’t need those. Instead of complaining about plastic straws, how about food take-outs get into the habit of asking if we need forks?

The american public is sooooo gullible. MOST of the plastic waste in the oceans are from COMMERCIAL FISHING NETS. But hey, fishermen don’t care so lets get all the dopes that buy groceries to think they’re doing something bad.

Apparently, the inventor of the plastic grocery bag never intended it to be a single-use item. I am glad that we now encourage (through a small fee) people to use their own reusable bags. Maybe one day we can transition to Tupperware for things like cereal. You would simply dispense it like coffee beans from one of those chutes.
