Giving a President the right to do anything he or she pleases essentially crowns that person king (or, if you prefer, ‘dictator for life’). The president is supposed to ‘preside’ over OUR rights. Not his or her rights…
It goes back, for me, to Trump’s first press secretary Sean Spicer, responding to his behavior not being presidential with, being the president, anything he does is presidential because he’s the president. Kind of a spin on the “Divine Right of Kings”… which asserted that kings derived their authority from God and could not therefore be held accountable for their actions by any earthly authority such as a parliament.
At the time, based on that, I thought of Donny sitting at the White House desk, with a face white with coke like the movie Scarface.
Does anyone else daydream about Biden throwing Trump and his Supreme Court majority into Gitmo, not on the grounds that they had, in effect (though illegitimately), declared his right to do so, but more on the grounds that, in so declaring, they had in effect volunteered to have the President do whatever he chooses with them? Something also might be done in imagination about reviewing all controversial past decisions in which Justices endorsed or vetted by the Federalist Society cast deciding votes, since the anti-Constitutional agenda of that organization has never been exactly subtle.
Mr. Wiggly: He’s in two places. He’s in the third panel and the 5th panel. He’s very sad listening to the nonsense Preston is spouting. Maybe SCOTUS will deny Trump his desire to become a dictator. Nah. They’ll give him what he wants, democracy be darned.
