Though “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” has become a cliche, it has merit. Longtime readers of this strip know and love the wild ride it’s been. Aaron weaves a great story, and though it took years to do this arc that in its time-line occurs over a few hours, doesn’t make it any less entertaining.
Well, the reactors must have been designed by the Soviets… or been producing a lot of hydrogen… But even so, the explosions at Chernobyl and Fukushima were not on the order of what was implied in the last episode. So I still vote for that it was a nuclear weapon going off.
So, what do we know about how radiation affects the mutants?
And Terence has a lot of explaining to do to this crowd…
gloomy Gus isn’t he? Could be worse. I’d take death by radiation as opposed to being burnt to a crisp in the explosion…….. On second thought, I’d be gloomy too!
That was the flash we saw. So they are back in the Endtown Universe. His watch is probably electronic so the EM pulse fried the circuits that ran the mechanical hands.
If 6:03 is the time here and now, how would Terrence know what HAD happened. He’s talking about it as if it was an event in the past when it obviously? seems to be happening in the present. Colour me confused.
The explosion went off in the last panel of the previous post. Since this is moments after that, it is now a past event. He knew, before he was shanghaied to travel with the others, that the reactor would go critical. When was not specified then (Nov 20, 2021), but it seemed that it would not be too far off from when they started their trip that landed them near the fountain of souls. As was pointed out by Amesworth and probably Marx, time flows differently elsewhere.
I’m going to take a flying leap at a wild guess here. The reactor went critical and the energies of the Eden Project were released from control. That was the actual blast. A wormhole collapsing in on itself.
When Terrence refers to the future of humanity, he is not including the crowd around him. Or even himself now. He means Topsiders only. But we saw what was in Amesworth’s suit. Humanity is already gone. And the Cardoodles will rule the future.
Dr. Amesworth felt that “true humans” were gone for good, unless they could manage something to undo the Grex change with the Eden Project. Terrance seems like a technician supervisor or engineer supervisor (not an administrator) to me. Aware of the Eden project, but handling the processes and equipment involved. In his mind (after all, he’s a Topsider—even still wearing his suit) the only “true humans” are those that have not been affected at all by the Grex Phenomenon. If the Eden project is dead, then there is no hope to preserve “true humans” (or bring them back). Grexes, Typhoid Marys, and newborns still exist, but they aren’t “true humans” to Terrance. Terrance talks about this reversal on 02/13/2021. On 11/14/2021 we get instructions for what could happen if the power to the Eden Project is cut (which is the case, since the reactors have blown). Wacky Cat(the “key”) and all of these folks are on the beach in Eden (I think), and probably where they need to be for their presence to help guide Eden back “along an interreality conduit”. Maybe someone can refresh my memory-but I don’t think the original cause for the Grex blending has ever been mentioned. The Eden Project was created to undo the phenomenon, so it can’t be the cause.

Interesting? Tried G00gling “six past three”, IT had NOTHING significant about it; No results found for significance of “six past three”.

3:06 (1506) was the last bell of the day at my high school. Three-oh-sixers were the guys who beat it out the door before 3:07.

So much for the war between humans and cardoodles. Ashes and diamonds….Foe and friend. We were all equal in the end.

I love the well-dressed crocodile standing in the background. To me, it’s touches like that in a SF horror thriller that MAKE Endtown.

Poor Terrance. Now he has time to grasp his situation. Time to cry for all that is lost and the final death of hope.

“No. We haven’t seen the end of them. We’ve only had a close view of the beginning of what may be the end of us.”
