Actually, that’s an example of a statistic that tells us little to nothing. Without knowing how the math scores are determined, we don’t know if “478” is good, bad, or indifferent. And “478” relative to what maximum or minimum score? If the score dropped from 478 to 465 out of out of a possible 500 points then the score dropped approximately 2.6%; if the scores are out of a possible 900 points then the score dropped 1.4%. And it should be asked if a decrease of 13 points is even meaningful. If the math scores are based on a 500 scale, then either score is an “A”, while if the scores are on a 900 scale, both scores get an “F”.
For those wondering, binary is actually not hard. the four digits syzygy47 put there are actually 1(8) 1(4) 0(2) 1(1) add the active 1s and ignore the blank 0s.

Math. That’s short for Mathew, right?

Wow, Brewster, even Oldbot knows the difference between 478 and 465. It’s 1101.

465 what? If mistakes are being counted, a lower number would be better. Like in golf.

And that’s after they added 100 to all the scores back in the 1990’s.

Brewster was holding up six fingers so at least there’s hope for us.

Can you really trust anyone to do the scoring?
mistercatworks 10 months ago
That’s OK because math hardly ever matters except in finance, engineering, science, shopping …
rjarchuleta 10 months ago
…pretty sure Brewster was trying to divide by 0!
