But he might get lucky. At 175 lbs, playing offensive centre on the football squad, I was doomed to a season of riding the pine; but in the season’s opening game the starter broke his leg. Too bad, so sad.

Later in life, when people ask him what position he played in baseball, he can say he played left out.

The love of the game matters and Ice Cream. And spitting sunflower seeds. Wilberforce a lefty? Really? Means 1st base, pitcher, or outfield position. I have seen softball fast pitch lefty catchers on ladies teams. Really odd looking. Some players don’t catch on until they are 17 or 18 years old. And some didn’t even play baseball or football until college.

Let’s see – out on a baking field on hot humid summer days vs air conditioned ice cream shop with a nice double scoop? No brainer there! But if Wilberforce is a lefty Brutus should put him in a pitching camp. Lefties make the big bucks! The Guards could sure use a couple in their starting rotation now!

He could’ve left that little detail out and let the coach keep thinking he’s committed to the team. But then we needed a punchline.
