A long time ago, I went into work and couldn’t figure out why the mouse wasn’t working. At least until I found that a mouse had eaten through the mouse lead. This was in the days when it wasn’t easy to just grab another one and I had to wait for IT to deliver another one. I had to use all of my keyboard shortcut knowledge that day. It’s actually surprising how much you can actually do with a good knowledge of shortcuts to get most things done. Some are impossible of course.
I once had a cat that liked to sit on the mousepad. She scrunched her body so it would entirely fit on the mousepad. This was in the days of rolling ball mice. Needless to say, I had to get an optical mouse (and they were REALLY EXPENSIVE) because the mouse ball kept getting clogged up with cat hair.
The cat is an old school mouse mover to placate mouse movement tracking software. The only problem is cats have shorter attention spans than most programmers.

Let him have his toy mouse, and just use a touchpad.
