According to George Constanza, bookstores know when a book has been in the restroom.

It’s too late, Petey! You’re already handling the book, so any germs have transferred to you by now.

I’m sure this strip is hanging on a few desks of librarians.

Paper doesn’t carry diseases, just the dust of time.

It’s true, and based on scientific facts. I haven’t made it up. Shut up, I can’t hear you, lalalalalalalalalalalala!

If you store your old books long enough, and you open them years later, you will see tiny rows on the pages, that will tell you that this book is contaminated by booklice…

which he brought home from the library because he is such a voracious reader…

Do not tell Petey, that, since his dioramas are already contaminated with them(!!!) and he is sleeping on top of that…

    Oh, the Horror!!!!

Our children’s library stamped every book with “Please wash your hands before you read me, and keep me clean!” Anybody else?

I’m surprised Petey doesn’t wear a hazmat suit given that he lives with Alice, and Dill is next door.

Ironic now, because during the pandemic our libraries would hold returned books for several days before returning them to the shelves. The reason was to let any Covid virus on them expire from exposure to the air.

I’ve also heard library books are a transfer vector for bedbugs.

We used to wipe the clear plastic covers on children’s books with Windex. Takes care of a multitude of sins.
