It reminds me of an anecdote from the early days of Saturday Night Live.
Michael O’Donoghue was its head writer and occasional performer. He was known for a nasty temper. One day, he smashed a telephone into pieces in a temper tantrum (think back to the 1970s and remember how sturdy the old phones were — he put some effort into it).
When the telephone repairman arrived, all O’Donoghue would say was “It doesn’t work!”
This is far and wide the most edgy Peanuts strip I’ve ever saw. That eight panel is totally out of Schultz’s norm. And then, two panels later, everything comes back to earth again. I love it.
Like the guy who took advantage of Lowe’s “Full Refund Any Time” who returned the Christmas tree in mid January or the mattress five years after he bought it.
Connors and McEnroe have already been mentioned, but don’t forget Ilie “Nasty” Nastase – he was a piece of work, too! Well, he was a piece of something…apparently, he still is, or at least as of 2017: Google “Ilie Nastase Fed Cup ban”

Snoopy, channeling his inner Jimmy Connors (Connors was a star tennis player known for his temperamental outbursts)

John McEnroe must have used this for motivation during some of his epic meltdowns! You can not be serious!!!!!!!!!

Snoopy did raise a racket.

Too early to be a John McEnroe reference. Mac didn’t turn pro until 1978, a year after this strip.

My roommate once threw his racket, and it hit a Porsche in the parking lot. Never saw my roommate again.

Ol’ ‘Snoop’ apparently has a ‘short fuse’ when it comes to tennis ! ! !

He’ll receive a response that the racket warrantee is void due to damage.

After he smashes it, it is clearly bent, but when he wangs it, it is new again. A regenerating tennis racket, of sorts.

That’s what happens when your doubles partner is Molly Volley. Not only does she rub people the wrong way, she rubs off on Snoopy.
